Peer Review Process

All articles submitted to Stability: International Journal of Security & Development are initially considered by an Editor, who decides whether or not the article is relevant to the journal’s aims and objectives and meets minimum acceptable quality standards. Submissions considered suitable for peer review are assigned to one or more independent experts, who assess the article for clarity, validity, originality and methodology. Only commentary pieces, which are short (1,000-2,000 words) and reflect expert opinions/observations, are not peer reviewed; these instead undergo a comprehensive internal review by one or more of the Editors.

Stability operates a closed peer review process, meaning that reviewers will not know author details and will themselves remain anonymous to the author. The review period is expected to take no longer than four weeks. Reviewers are asked to provide formative feedback, even if an article is not deemed suitable for publication in the journal.

Articles are reviewed based on the importance and quality of the research as well as its contribution to the academic body of knowledge. Quality of writing is also an important criteria; poorly written articles will generally not be accepted, though exceptions may be made. That is, the journal’s editorial team may provide support to the author when the findings are deemed innovative but are initially presented in a manner which is not deemed acceptable for publication.

Based on the reviewer reports the handling Editor will make a recommendation for rejection or acceptance. All accepted articles are ‘accepted with minor revisions’, though the journal does not generally accept pieces which would require major revisions. Overall editorial responsibility rests with the journal’s Executive Editor, who is supported by an expert, international Editorial Board.
